pe1mph AM from Holland

« on: February 13, 2023, 08:58:21 AM »

Hello AM Lovers,
This morning we could hear in The Netherlands many AM stations on 3885 khz.

Hi, hi.... while I were listening I thinking about some years back...
When many AM stations from The Netherlands were qso-ing with stations from the Usa.
No not on 3885, but on 3705, 3710 and 3660 khz.
The conditions were in those years very good....

And this morning again many stations in AM could be received, but now on 3885 khz!
During many years I listen to BC MW stations and on 160/80/40.
I try to receive new BC AM stations on mediumwave and AM stations on 160/80/40 meters.
Always big fun when I heard (log) new stations, but this morning on MW no BC stations from the Usa.

Surprice: on 80 meters big signals! Grin
In the morning, before I go to my work, I sent Apps to 'early in the morning dx-ers'.
I did this again this morning and some listen evenso to 3885 khz.

I try to get some recordings and a photo under this text.
You can not believe how good we heard Chuck K1KW this morning. Wink
Not only him, evenso more AM stations...

I (pe1mph) heard Chuck, in our livingroom, on my little radio XHDATA on the telescope antenna!

Just I got info: Henk PA3HDM and Jan PA3HCO listen this morning.
Both, AM lovers, could receive AM on 3885 with good signals.

Hello Henk -

It's amazing you are picking up AMers from 3885 on your portable radio with the little whip antenna in the Netherlands!  [inside the house]

We had a lively group on from about 10:30PM to 3 AM local time  EST.   For your information, the stations were K1KW/Chuck, K1KBW/Bob, WA1HLR/Tim, K1JJ/Tom, W2GOR/Gordon and earlier, WB2GCR/Bear.

It's funny how we all think we are having a local conversation  - but in reality we are being heard in many parts or the world as well as even farther away on the internet receivers.

Use an "AM Courtesy Filter" to limit transmit audio bandwidth  +-4.5 KHz, +-6.0 KHz or +-8.0 KHz when needed.  Easily done in DSP.

I will make a special listen for you..... by calling for Euro from time to time.   We should hear your BC-610 no problem.

Years ago some of the European stations from the 3795 DX window used to come up the band to 3885 and break in on AM. One guy had a high Yagi and was usually easy to copy on AM.

Last night I was in my "Clark Kent" disguise running lower power and the local dipole.  If I hear you I can switch to a pair of delta loops at 190' high that beams Europe... [and the big rig, Fabio, the plate modulated 4-1000A]

Yes Tom!
I heard Chuck by me very good, clear with some fading.
And I heard more.... but signals not like Chuck (sorry).
I were wondering so many AM Lovers in The Netherlands could receive AM stations on 3885!

Hi, hi.... some years back we had many qso's on 3705, 3710 and 3660 between USA and Holland.
A pity often ssb stations are on or close to those freq.... Cry

Oh before I forget, mention not to fast your calls...
Mostly it is difficult for us to understand them direct...

The freq. 3885 is mostly a good and clear freq. for us to listen.
Better then 3875, because close to that freq. I hear often digitale noise...

Greetings and we ALL are listening! Grin
