Welcome to the Collins 30K Transmitter Resource Site

This fine transmitter started out as a post-war amateur radio product and evolved into several commercial variants used in air-to-ground as well as point-to-point ground stations. It was used by a number of entities from government to private industry, and remained in production through the 1950s. Today, many of the commercial versions have been located and converted to amateur service where they serve well with their amateur counterparts. Anyone who has had the opportunity to own or operate a 30K understands what a wonderful piece of history it is.

The original list of 30K owners was started back in the mid-1980s with the intent of providing a point of contact - a central repository of information, if you will - for users needing help with their transmitters, and those seeking further information on the model. To that end, this site will be updated regularly and content added as time permits. Yes - it's been a while since the last update. When you see how far the site has progressed, you’ll understand why.

Along with recent updates to the owners list, we are now adding original 30K advertising and marketing samples from brochures, trade journals, and other sources. Technical materials including manuals and schematics will also be included. And perhaps best of all, an opportunity for folks to let others see their 30K transmitters as they look and operate today. A photo gallery will display present-day station shots as well as historical photographs of these transmitters in action during their heyday.

An additional bonus is the opportunity to utilize a forum for technical discussion, repair and restoration tips, a primer for new owners, and even a classified section for those seeking or selling 30K items from parts to complete transmitters. Far more than we need? Sure, but why not make use of it?

Though we currently still have content to add, this site will only reach its full potential through the participation of its users. If you have information you think would be helpful to others, or would just like to share some history through personal experiences or photographs, please don't hesitate to do so. Send your material, along with your name and callsign (if applicable) to:

collins@amfone.net

Thanks to the generous help of our webmaster Gary, W2INR and AMfone, as well as the contributions of users, an excellent resource can now be utilized by all via the World Wide Web.

Enjoy the site -

~ Todd, KA1KAQ
