Interesting Steve,
I hope you find someone here that knows what on earth this might be used in. I'll be monitoring, so to speak. Cool

Used in flame control in boiler systems.

Honeywell,  if memory serves.

The tricky part is slipping the match in to light the tube!

IF..... it is in fact a 5608.... it was designed for ac on the plates.....What would be the design difference between AC or DC plates?  Could the tube be used with DC on the plate...??

The 5608 is a simply a medium Mu, duo-triode with a common cathode (pin 4).

The  5608 was replaced by the 6J6:

https://frank.pocnet.net/sheets/093/6/6J6.pdf

One could use it as a dual medium mu audio triode. With the strap the filament will be at the same potential as the cathode.

I saw this once in a boiler control. it was the first AND gate so to speak.

One of the grids sensed pilot light heat via a thermocouple, the other grid went to an "on" or activate switch. Both plates went to the AC supply.

The cathode went to an AC relay that when pulled-in, opened the main burner gas valve.

From another manufacturer,  it is a 5608.

As referenced by this mfg being peddled on the Bay.

The 5608 was registered by Raytheon. Compare the curves and plate power roughly to a 6N7. or 6A6.

Good explanation Phil. That is an interesting use of a tube.
