American Graffiti radio site torn down.

Remember this Wolfman Jack segment ?

Quote
The old transmitter building of KSPN/Los Angeles is demolished.

The station recently built new transmitter facilities from which it is now broadcasting. For nearly 70 years the equipment located inside the North Hollywood building spread news, music and sporting events all across Southern California, both as KMPC and, more recently, KSPN. Station President/GM Chris Berry reports that sharp-eyed movie fans will also recall that the building was used as the radio studio for Wolfman Jack’s broadcasts in the classic film American Graffiti.

That movie did a fantastic job in capturing the feeling of what it was like in those days.  Might have been a little "dramatically enhanced", but cruzin' was what we lived for in the late 50's and early 60's.  Seemed like our whole existence revolved around cars (and girls) and riding around town...from one drive-in joint to another.

It was sure different then when 4-5 guys could pile in the old Chevy, chip in a buck a piece, and fill the gas tank!  (Regular gas was 29.9 cents/gal.)  We would ride around town all night...it was important just to be seen and to see everybody else at all the favorite hangouts.

Of course now, most of the towns around here actively prohibit cruising and pretty much discourage such activity, so even if the kids could afford the gas, they don't cruise much any more.

Those days were nice.  No worries, no current wars except the Cold War.  My good friend K9RFW had a 426 Hemi Plymouth Satellite.  Good thing gas was cheap, because it got about 1 to 2 MPG if you got into the secondaries on the dual quads on the cross-ram system.  Guess we are getting old; driving a minivan now.  But it has plenty of roof room for antennas.
