The May 2022 issue of Microwave Journal has an article titled 'The Perfect HF Receiver. What Would It Look Like Today?' by Ulrich Rohde (N1UL/DJ2LR) and Thoms Boegl. Pages 68 - 82; 8 pages.

http://digital.microwavejournal.com/?issueID=55&pageID=70

This link will probably not work. I have posted the pdf of the article below in a later posting.

They demand that I subscribe.
Don't want to subscribe.
Want to see what Ulrich Rhode has to say.
I recall his no-holds barred receiver from back in the 1970s as published by
Ham Radio Magazine... tanfastique!!

Sorry Bear. I do have a subscription and I get the paper magazine too. I did modify the link above, try again, but I'm not sure if it will work for you. works for me, damn cookies I reckon. When I get the paper copy, I will send a scanned pdf of that article to you mon ami, for ur edifikashun OM.

Yep, I remember that series in Ham Radio Magazine back then. I didn't know about dynamic range and phase noise, frequency synthesizers until his articles; he's quite the guru. And I was at his lecture in the Dayton Hamvention around 1976 and the one by the New Zealand engineer/ham, Lester Earnshaw ZL1AAX, from Racal? Those were great technical lectures back then that the Hamvention put together.
