Yep, I remember that series in Ham Radio Magazine back then. I didn't know about dynamic range and phase noise, frequency synthesizers until his articles; he's quite the guru. And I was at his lecture in the Dayton Hamvention around 1976 and the one by the New Zealand engineer/ham, Lester Earnshaw ZL1AAX, from Racal? Those were great technical lectures back then that the Hamvention put together.
