Yes it is true.  This afternoon.  Don't have the details.  Bill was in somewhat failing health (heart problems among others).

While not first hand, from reliable sources, it is confirmed that Bill, KC2IFR indeed is SK.

Quite a colorful character on the air, he was.

If anyone has details on the arrangements, please post them here. Is his family in need of help?

Bill and I always got along.  We kept in touch via email.  We had an interest in photography.

He certainly was an interesting person.  I'm sad to hear of his passing.  I trust he is at rest now

Sorry to hear about Bill.

Always had a good signal, and a interesting viewpoints. Enjoyed his stories of his work at a NYC recording studio. One time he bootleg copied the Beatles Rubber Soul (?) from the master tapes.

Rest well and at peace.

Sorry to hear that Bill is gone. I'll miss tuning across his big signal and hearing him laugh as he steps into the middle of "it" with someone.

R.I.P. Bill.

Bill had a host of serious health issues. He would often joke "If I knew I'd live this long I would have taken better care of myself."

RIP, Bill

Bill certainly didn't hold back when he had something to say and there's no shortage of recordings of his most colorful opinions. However, I feel fortunate to have been listening last September 21 when Brent W1IA moved the unmovable object and stopped the unstoppable object by helping to end a long time rift between Bill and his friend Bob.

The attached MP3 adds a missing color to the picture...

Back in 2007 when we were putting together the first NEAR-Fest Bill contacted me and offered to put up the up front money to get the thing off to a good start.  I thanked him and told him that we would be okay with selling advance tickets.  I don't know if he could have actually followed up and come through with the financing but I will always remember his kind offer to help.

I will miss him.

Was Bill a pilot?

I know we were in aviation related threads on this forum a number of times, but I never go around to asking him.

I wondered about the "IFR" in his call sign.

Thanks for the recording.
I looked through my log book/scratch pads and did not find his call.
Not sure we ever worked.
35 or 40 years on the air and you would think I would have worked everyone at some point.

Do you have that file in its entirety? I'd like to see how that bit of history developed.  If it's size I can adjust the compression so it would fit here w/o appreciable degradation

Thanks, Al
