I am cleaning up the junk boxes and have come across several items that look like smaller 2" X 2.5" tube era power supply chokes. But they have 3 wires, all coming out of one side. Leads on one are yellow, red and blue. Any ideas what they are?

Sounds like a TV vertical output transformer.

I agree, vertical output xfmrs, never been able to find a use or them.

What's the impedance of the most turned windings? Used for an audio choke in a regen? Or if impedance is too low used as a choke ignoring the tap?

I have used VOTs as supply filters ... worked ok at 100mA or so

Altec/Peerless used a taped choke in some of there units. I just rewound one. Regards, TRS Gary

UTC made three terminal chokes. They are the PA series chokes. Main portion of the choke is the second and third terminal. The first terminal had a 1mfd cap to ground. Some sort of resonating the choke.

What about using them as a mod transformer in a single ended class A arrangement with one lead acting as an auto transformer connected to the PA? Maybe a five watt rig for ten meters?

The ratio is such that the 'secondary' would be too high for a speaker and too low for much else, although use is possible for a 'line' or where a large voltage signal is wanted but not as much as on the plate. Look for 45-200 Ohms when hooked to a 6V6 or something. Deflection yokes vary wildly so it is hard to say what Z ratio unless you measure.
It might be used as a modder, if you have a step-up with the low Z winding on top. Question is how much DC can pass before the audio-like characteristics go bad?
Use one for an audio choke to supply DC to the class C stage and one just the same for the modulator, and another as the mod transformer with capacitive coupling. Looks like a nightmare waiting.
The things have good HV insulation since they handle a vertical retrace pulse that can be 500-1200V, and work at 60Hz, and even lower, if one has a vertical hold control on the TV set. They are not so good at high audio frequencies, kind of purpose made.
Whatever it is, the thing is a well made autotransformer and you have to use your imagination to find a use. small B+ choke is not a bad use.

BTW color code: yellow: vertical Yoke hot side Blue: plate red B+
yoke return depends on which end the low z winding is on. usually returns to B+ red.

Carl, if you see any part numbers on the xfmr I should be able to cross reference the xfmr to a Stancor or Thordarson xfmr. From there I can determine the ratios and impedances. Fred
