For shame playing music! I wonder if an FCC activity will be generated. So, how's it sound? I can't hear it.

Steve are you sure it wasn't some spur from a broadcast station like people were hearing the other day ?

I mean, you never know.

It wouldn't be right to be playing music on OUR bands. That's what the internet is for.

Just what we need; another nutcase putting the AM mode in a bad light. Track the station down; turn him in; get him off the air; we don't need this garbage; as Paul said, "that's what the internet is for".

There will always fools on the bands; just like cockroaches, they infest our amateur bands; stamp them out.

I agree, music does not belong on ham radio frequencies! But since this is the topic, I used to hear the Nutcracker Suite around the Christmas Holidays but no longer. It was alway weak in way Upstate NY but seemed to be somewhat a tradition.

Maybe the people that played it croaked?   Anyone hear it anymore?

Why care; as you said, it doesn't belong on ham radio frequencies. Probably was some fool crawling out from under a rock once a year to substantiate some personal ego boost. Given the FCC's present enforcement size, we should be vigilant on the ham bands for these types of violations, and if we know who they are, turn them in. I have no love or appreciation for these types of violators. This type of ham radio cancer needs to be shut down. It affects us all.

The pirate ought to stick to non-ham frequencies. Lots of room for pie-rats elsewhere. Otherwise, they should get their just desserts (yes it is fake pic)

BTW it ought not be discussed much more, or it may encourage the evildoer.

Hmm, if no commercials, if all the selections were of a genre that we know a certain person/ type of person likes....
If the music fits the profile of your oldie DJ's once running 7415.   Uh, probably not a harmonic of a law abiding station.  Oh yeah, 6th , 7th harmonics don't quite match stuff in this country.  Back side skip from outer Globbovia?  Grin

I really like the off-shore concept. Too bad the logistics are so expensive or we'd probably hear a lot more of them.

I'll bet we'll hear it again next Xmas with someone running a 100 milliwatt station therefore not in violation of any laws or rules loosely coupled to a 5000 foot wire Wink Wink

Yeah, he'll run his dorm line right beside your house.  Those 100 mw sigs do travel surprisingly far.

Oh also, When you live between two rivers on a pond in Mirror Lake estates with gain antennae, well, yes you finally get caught.  Nice selections.

Paul, how long ago was that pix ? Hmmm?  Don't accelerate that boat very fast.

Two cases that took place over the past 40 years prove that pirate broadcasters cannot operate from ships near U.S. waters:

1. Radio Free America, 1160 kHz, 12 miles off Cape May, NJ, summer, 1973. After the FCC silenced WXUR-AM/FM, Media, PA for misrepresentation (not for Fairness Doctrine violations, as is commonly believed), Rev. Carl McIntire had a crew outfit an old World War II minesweeper as a broadcast station. Rechristened the Columbus, McIntire used this vessel to broadcast conservative religious and political programming. He made the mistake of registering the ship in this country, so the FCC and Coast Guard shut the station down. Unlicensed transmissions from U.S.-registered vessels are prohibited anywhere in the world.

2. Radio newyork international (spelling used by the station). Alan Weiner of WBCQ fame set this one up in the 1980s, converting an old fishing vessel. To avoid the pitfall of Rev. McIntire, he registered his ship in another country (Honduras?) and anchored it several miles from Queens, NY. Citing some treaty, the FCC and U.S. marshals boarded the ship and shut the station down. A federal judge then issued an injunction against any further unlicensed broadcasting activities from the RNI people. I was able to hear the mediumwave outlet on 1620 kHz like a local in Lakewood, NJ.

The legal reasoning used by the government in shutting down RNI was questionable, but nobody was able to successfully challenge the government in this case.

Just the other day, Rick.

Wait, that was pre-dog.
Well he's still a puppy so it can't have been long ago.
Newer boat now.
