Beautiful rig, Carl!  Yes, we need to have a QSO cigar box to cigar box!  117L7, 117N7, or 117P7 work great for a single tube with built-in AC DC power supply.

I'm getting the parts assembled to build a matching receiver.  I have two more matching cigar boxes.  Maybe, a tuner in the third box?  I am also  having thoughts of a matching QRO amplifier....Maybe 20-25 watts??  Shocked Cool

Here is my AC-DC version.  Pair of 50L6s.  (I cheated and used a diode for the rectifier).

Here also is the map for keeping track of WAS.

Great looking rig Jack.  I sure miss my old WRL Map!  Wish I could find another one.

Congrats... The idea is all about early ham radio.. "Run what you brung"
I have built several one tube radio in wood cigar boxes. The whole idea is cool. Lets try a 117lgt single tube to 955 !

Carl,

As they say "I like the look"!  Great looking TX and RX for sure.  Looking at the transmitter it appears to have lots of turns on for the tank coil.  Is it for 160M or is it a real low Q tank for 75?

Very nice work.

It is 160.  I have since changed that to a plug in coil so I use it on all bands

Carl,
Well that was my guess.  I always try to keep my eyeballs calibrated when I see the number of turns on a coil vs. frequency Wink.

I have started on the matching  cigar box regen receiver.  I decided on a three tube design using metal (octal) tubes.

Looks like your off and running Jack.  Are you going to use the HI Z choke off the detector before driving the audio stage?

One thing I like about cigar box transmitters, is the "soft" attenuation of harmonics  via the box Wink Wink

Joe,

I like that circuit, but I can't find the Hi Z choke.  Those things are hard to find.  I had one around somewhere, but can't find it.  I also had a big one out of some old telephone equipment, but it was far too large for the cigar box.  I don't think you can even buy those little chokes anywhere.  Seems like it was something like 80-100 HY?Huh  Must have used lots of turns of really fine wire.  Maybe I can just use an interstage transformer.
