We have all heard references to amateur radio in recent years, equating our hobby to “old”, “dated” and “dinosaur”. Now it appears the broadcast industry’s biggest radio company is jumping on the bandwagon and dropping the word radio from its title, which has been changed to Clear Channel Media and Entertainment. The company says the change reflects evolution of its business, as the new brand more clearly signals its successful expansion into “new areas”.  The CEO says the company wants to prove that “our relationship with our listeners is more than just our transmitters and towers”.

They will drop every other second to save money, and roll off the audio so you can only hear the 440.

Any commercials would have to be less than 30 seconds to allow the voice announcements to continue.
Why is the USA getting soooo weird lately?? We're heading down that slippery slope.......fast!

It has more to do with business than anything else I think.  CC has overextended itself in radio properties, buying up loads of small and medium market AMs that they couldn't get into the black with during the down economy.  I don't think they can sell them right now because who wants to buy an AM that's loosing money.  Some of that has to do with the CC business model which seems to be to use their own syndicated talent and cut out as much locally produced content as possible.   I don't think that is a good long term strategy.   Anyway, getting "radio" out of the corporate name is probably an attempt to get investors to think the company is into other more profitable sectors, which they very well may be.

That clip has circulated on the internet for years.  It's a spoof. It was supposed to be hilarious but I think "cheesy" might be a better term.

I subscribe to a couple of broadcast radio trade journals, and from what I read every month, small town radio stations (particularly AMers) all over the country are losing money and their owners (whether local yokels or corporate) are running in panic mode.
