Any commercials would have to be less than 30 seconds to allow the voice announcements to continue.

That clip has circulated on the internet for years. It's a spoof. It was supposed to be hilarious but I think "cheesy" might be a better term.
Anyway, getting "radio" out of the corporate name is probably an attempt to get investors to think the company is into other more profitable sectors, which they very well may be.
I subscribe to a couple of broadcast radio trade journals, and from what I read every month, small town radio stations (particularly AMers) all over the country are losing money and their owners (whether local yokels or corporate) are running in panic mode.
