If you can't read the text in the advertising message at the bottom, this is what it says: "Here's a message from Milwaukee"
This thoughtful wife knows that the moment her husband tunes in on Schlitz the reception is good. For Schlitz has a very good taste that beer- lovers are changing to with ultra high frequency.Taste Schlitz yourself.
You'll soon know why--
Schlitz tastes so good to so many people, it's first in sales in the U.S.A. Here is some information on the artist who drew the image. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Philip_Falter

Ya know this has set me to wondering. What other adverts and other commercial work featured ham radio? This one I am going to print on photo paper and put up in the shack. What else is out there? Some old QST covers probably consitute artwork...

This one I am going to print on photo paper and put up in the shack. You might get a higher quality print-out from this site, selecting the larger image. http://www.flickr.com/photos/radiorover/1968806418/Or this one, for the image only, without the rest of the ad: http://www.flickr.com/photos/captainspaulding/5012491328/The posted images on the Flickr site must have some kind of copy protection, since the larger versions with higher resolution won't save. Maybe someone more computer-savvy than I can figure out how to hack around it. I would assume that if your screen will capture the image, the printer will print it.

Since this was 1951 or 1952 and a microphone but no key is seen on the desk, those are undoubtedly homebrew AM transmitters mounted in the racks and cabinet. Wonder if he wore the neck tie while he was building them.

He appeared in the west coast publication Radio several years before WW2.

Is that an an inbound comet on the world globe? Does the stairway railing mean they might be downstairs in a bomb shelter? Does his shit-faced grin mean he's on his 15th guzzled beer - the XYL just came home? Is he tuning the TX VFO thinking it's the RX? Or maybe I'm just seeing things... T

Use an "AM Courtesy Filter" to limit transmit audio bandwidth +-4.5 KHz, +-6.0 KHz or +-8.0 KHz when needed. Easily done in DSP.

Is that an an inbound comet on the world globe?
On my globe (circa 1930) there is a similar marking labelled 'Analemma'. It extends N/S slightly past the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn and indicates the sun's declination for every day of the year and the clock time ahead or behind the sun. I never learned how to use it... I've had my globe for probably 50 years.

I just gotta agree Erbet (Irwin) W2VJZ was definitely flipping the bird in that picture of fellow mutual admiration birds.
I met that space cadet at a near Burlington, Vermont hamfest when he was proudly pontificating about evil guys and even mentioned myself (having never met me in person. I of course joined in agreeing how evil K1DEU was etc.
Eventually becoming totally bored with him and the other tongue waggers it was time to move on and enjoy the Capitalistic Charlotte hamfest.
Therefore I identified myself as one of his Radio Police favorites and pontificated;
If you ever call me a jammer who does not ID I will personally wrap your Schwinn Bicycle around your neck permanently. Yes I jam but let people know that it is I testing my piss weak signal ! No I was placid and calm and very loud and sincere. A year later Irwin mentioned on 75 AM how his Schwinn fell apart while riding it and the handle bars mysteriously wrapped around his neck. There's no justice, I beg your pardon. And of course I am not perfect. But I am advertising for a XYL with more than a beautiful voice to occasionally run a lawn mower over my backside. 73 John, K1DEU

My luck has been awful. Prospects are either XYLs or are playing for the other team.
