I have what I am guessing is a swinging choke.
It has the following on the label:

REACTOR
Mfd. by Super Electric Prod. Corp. for Radio Receptor Co., Inc.
Part No. 932
Type No. 2-RR-2
6/60 H
4/05 Amp
10000 Ins.

I think there is supposed to be a decimal or two that did not show up when they stamped the tag.

Is it 6 to 60 henries?
Is it 400mA/50mA?

If inductance decreases as current increases then I effectively have 6 Henries at 400 mA?

not so sure... how big is the thing?? Sounds like it might be 6H @ 4 amps and then 60H at 500ma... that would make the second number 0.5

The laminations stack is 4" thick and 5" x 7" square.  Has big end bells that make it overall 8" wide.  DCR is 77 ohms.  39 lbs.

It's probably 6 to 60 henries at 400mA/50mA.

I have a smoothing (non-swinging) choke rated at 6hy 500ma at 7500 v and it's around 28 lbs.

So yours at 39 lbs with a bit higher voltage and a swinger sound resonable.

If it were 6 hy at 4 amps it would be much bigger, I think.

Bear

When that choke was made they didn't use the 0.X way of writing decimal numbers.

The choke is 6hy @ 400ma - 60hy @ 50ma.

Never saw a swinging choke that had that big a range 6-60hy.  It would be interesting to measure the choke with no current,  probably won't measure anywhere near 60 hys.

39 Lbs is a little heavy for a choke of that size, but, with the 10kv high voltage insulation and the cast iron end bells, it might account for the extra weight.

Manufacturers of chokes used different methods for measuring the inductance of chokes.  I have measured many different chokes and found that the numbers are all over the map from what they are labeled.
