Shelby is one of those legendary 'fests that many of us have heard about for years, a lot like Hosstraders was to the Northeast. There's a strong boatanchor presence there with heavyweights like Nick K4NYW, John K5MO, Al W8UT, JP K4OZY and many more. Mixed in is the milsurplus contingent with folks like Marty AA4RM, Meir WF2U and others. They already have an area of 15+ spaces which will no doubt be crammed with great tube gear.

A group of mid-Atlantic and northeast AMers will be gathering at KAQ studios (I use that term loosely) on Thursday for a cookout and some radio fun, then heading down Friday to scope out the event. It's the first time for all of us, really looking forward to it. We might even bring some jun....er....stuff to sell.  Grin  Look for us Thursday on 40m daytime (including at least one AM mobile station), possibly 80 if we get ambitious enough to shoot the aerial up through the trees.

I've been told the event starts mid-week for folks with motor homes, so some might already be there or enroute. Anyone else on here planning to attend? No ideas what, if anything is already planned for dinner, but hopefully we can all catch up at some point.

See you there.

I'm looking forward to making the trek. It will be my first time too. TNX to Todd for hosting.

Anyone else attending?

I kind of wanted to go, but checked with Mapquest and the hamfest site is 460 miles from  here.  If someone else in the local area wanted to go I might consider sharing driving and expenses, but Dayton @ 350 miles is about my outer limit for a solo hamfest trip, and I haven't even done that for several years.

O.K. fellas, here we go. I'm getting ready to collect the last bit of stuff to take to Dallas (Shelby) this morning. I've got tent, camping gear, easy up, and excess treasure all in tow. It's going to be a blast! Hope to see you all there. Just look for the guy carrying the god awful looking, battle scarred BC-348 or ART-13 with a smile on his face; that'll be me!
