I hear you here in the Atlanta area, but you're just about at my noise level.

Okay got a brief QSO with N8YHP from West Virginia.  He was only running 25 watts from an IC-746 an a dipole but alas, it made the trip to Louisiana.  Now at 9 am CST I'm hearing some music up underneath.  But hey! We need some more activity on 40 so I'll check it out more often during the daylight hours...... I need to shut it down and sleep, I work nights and it was a long 12 hour shift... catchya all later and 73!

Just worked:
K4YBC   Dave, LENOIR, NC,  Viking II, 100W
W8UVS   Joe, MEMPHIS, MI, HT37?,  20W

on 7295 with my 30W.  Both had clean Q5 S9 signals.  My signal was about S8

Is it true that there is a 20db penalty for announcing a cq on the internet?  hmmmm

Well I'm sitting at 3.885 this morning, 5.30 am central if anyone feels like having a go at it.

I heard your cq and responded several times. I head you say "I think I can hear something". You were very weak here in eastern WV but I could tell it was your call. There was stronger ssb activity very near the frequency. I was running 175 watts with my Meissner 150B to an 80 meter dipole with open wire feeders up at 45'.

I tell you one of these times it's gonna be good... yea i could hear "kx5jt this is...*noisey**"
You know how it is.. it's much easier to recognize your own call in noise.  I was running 180 watts (ricebox into amp but it seems to put out a nice signal)

I'll try later again... thanks for playing!

Heard W8VYZ in QSO with another station that I could not hear on 7295 this morning.  He was S9+20 in Liberty, NC around 11:00 AM EST.

Just worked W8VYZ (OH), WB3FAU (WPA) & KC2NWA (WNY) on 7290.  Great 20+ signals.

In general, I seem to do much better with 30W on 40 than 75.

There was a strong QSO on 7285 also.

1130: QSO on 7296 now.

1140: We moved down to 7295.  20+ signal to VE3OWV (ONT) with 30W!!

I could hear W8VYZ, WB3FUA, and KC2NWA but i couldn't hear you, then I moved to 3875 and talked to N8YHP. Was having a problem with my ft-101 on 40, then realized that I may have been getting some RF feedback into my amp from my 40 meter antenna, but I haven't had that problem before.

I worked the following stations this morning and early afternoon:

KA3BVJ - Dennis in SE Pa on 7285 running 30 watts with an HT-40
WB2YGF - John in NJ on 7295 running 30W with a 756 Pro
WB3FAU - Russ in NW Pa on 7295 running 100w with an Apache
VE3OWV -Nick on 7295 running an Italian Geloso (remember them?) at 35 or so watts.
W9VT - Jerry on 7295 running a Ten Tec Jupiter at 30 watts.
W8BXG - Dennis on 7290 running a Viking II at 100 watts.

The wireless sending apparatus in use at my station was the Meissner 150B  (813 x 811's) at 170 watts to an 80 meter dipole @45' with 600
ohm open wire feeders and a Viking KW Matchbox.

Conditions were all over the place with stations going from s9 +20 then into the noise in just minutes and then back again. Band seemed most stable
just before and after high noon EST.

I worked WB3FAU, VE3OWV, W9VT, & W3NP above.  In addition:

KC2NWA, John, Otter Lake NY, running a Viking II, HQ 170, 130ft Dipole
W8KYD, Ron, near Cleaveland, running a DX 60B at 50W into a windom
W8UVS, Joe, Memphis Mich, running an HT40 at 20W into a double bazooka.
W8VYZ, Bill, in Ashtaluba, (NW) OH, running a homebrew KW into a 160M dipole. (The only tall ship today Wink )

Nice to see all the activity.  Hope this is a trend.  Amazing what small ships can do on 40.  Armchair copy with no selective fading.

Oh boy!  I left town this weekend and went visit some people in New Orleans for the first time since Hurricane Katrina... mixed feelings...my friends are doing great, the city seems to be slow to recover but signs are good.

Anyway, looks like I missed some good 40 meter AM action!  I'm back on 7.290 AM this morning.  Calling CQ...
Anyone wanna play? I may adjust up or down a few khz due to qrm/broadcasters...

Had some great QSO's this morning.  N2ZAB from Florida was sounding great and helped me with my audio as well.  Then a great QSO with John, W0RDX from nearly due north of me in Minnesota.  Life on 40 is picking up!

40 M has always been a great band for AM activity.  I guess, with the recent dramatic variable propagation conditions, many people just got discouraged or frustrated and activity diminished.

I worked several stations on 40 yesterday and had a ball.  I will make a point to get on 40M more...I just got into the habit of staying on 160 and 75.
