Hello all,

I have recently acquired a Western Electric 451A-1 broadcast transmitter and I was wondering if anyone out there has ever put one of these things on 160 meters. If so, I am hoping that they might share any words of wisdom they have about any problems they might have encountered. I'd also like to hear any general comments or other information about this transmitter.

Thanks!!

Joe, N3IBX, is a member here and has one.  I don't think his is on the air yet, though.

Beautiful xmitter and well worth saving.

Oh yeah Ron, I noticed your 8 call.  Did you by chance pick it up from N8ZL, ex WB8SKV West Milford?   He might have some pointers for you.

Yup a beauty for sure.
At least it has a nice viewing window to see the glowing pubes. I bet it sounds great!!!
The 250 watters seemed to make good sounds in their day. Huge, heavy, overbuilt....still working.

Prior to Larry owning it, Lamont, KK4Broadcast Operator, owned it and used it regularly on 160. I know it wasn't too frequency agile but it worked quite well. Good audio if I remember correctly.

Haven't heard Larry lately.
I know he's been preoccupied building a new house and stuff.
Actually it's been a couple of years.

Got the word that Ron lives in Montana now, so his isn't the particular Westinghouse I thought.

Last I heard he had returned to Goochland Co. and took over ownership of a radio station(?). I can't remember who I talked to said they ran into him at a hamfest and he told him his job leaves little time for doing radio. I do recall those late evenings on 160 with the WE.
