Thanks for the feedback, John.

I don't know if this observed behavior is a clue or not but just as the site went down this last time, I was lucky enough to be there when it happened. the site became intermittently accessible then became inaccessible (blank browser screen) followed shortly by the Error 500.  This happened in the span of 10 or so minutes.

Yes.

No idea what the issue is but I suspect it's related to bots skimming forums to feed AI.  Other forums have been hit.  Again, not sure 100% this is the issue.

Personally John, it's hard to believe that bots are causing the problem. "error 500" generally are issues more commonly found between the specific web site and the host server. Has anyone approached the hoisting company that runs and supports the servers to notify them of the amfone.net problem?

Given the very erratic nature of the web site for the last several months, down during most days when people are up and around, versus up and running fairly normal during the late evening hours. AND, with variations of this schedule almost every day. Us diehards generally pop in almost every day, but I suspect many are or will be frustrated and pissed off and move on somewhere else for their "AM fill". But there is no other totally AM-related web site that has the depth and breadth that we have here.

Amfone.net has provided many years of almost totally related "AM" dialog between the members both domestically and internationally. It would be a real shame for it to slip deep into the shadows of oblivion.

Steve, John, Todd,
Hate to put you on the spot but since no one has asked the question, do you realize that AMFone.net forum gets an Error 500 sporadically and periodically?  Your logins to AMfone appear as if you may not be aware of the intermittent up/down time. Could be wrong but just wanted to float the question.

BTW, today was a good day.

the site is being hosted again, though some items are still 404. Someone else is hosting on a private machine but no one's working on it.

The amp is called a distributed amplifier. Artificial delay lines are used to isolate the stages from each other while connecting them to the load. usually operated class A because there's no flywheel. Can be pulsed for the usuall reasons.

I have about 6GB of technical information on those, decided to study them for a few months. Also, own an IFI 400, which is a 50KHz-220MHz amp with six 4X250Bs. It's half of the schematic shown, which has 12 tubes.

Also a 100KW unit attached.

Tektronix made much use of the scheme for vertical deflection amps in its better old tube scopes.

Amplifier Research equipment was lab and industrial stuff.  I used to use a 150 watt solid state AR amp in a high power network analyzer setup so I could tune HF curtain arrays withing a few hundred feet of other such arrays running 300 kw or more.  I also had a 25 watt solid state AR amp and neither one ever failed me.
The 8122 got its few minutes of amateur radio fame in the National NCL2000 amplifier and the NCX1000 high power transceiver.  They are hard to find lately so should be treated delicately.

......It would be a loss for everyone if it went away.

K1JJ and I were talking about this a couple of weeks ago.  It would be very disappointing if all the information people contributed to this site were lost.  The construction project posts, schematics, tips and tricks, mentoring, all the technical discussion, you name it that has occurred here and is all archived, one can't put a price tag on that info.

I know this is an old thread, but I have to say that 50.4 is not completely dead. Sure, the band is not often in good shape for DX but there are local groups around, at least in MA and CT. There are at least 2 groups on Wednesday evenings and on 50.550.
