It's so cold that the flame froze on the match this morning when I went to light the stove!
Seriously though, it was -6 here this morning, and has just 'warmed up' to about 1 since the sun came up.
Good Time to get on the air!
Tube equipment's efficiency approaches 100% if you are using the heat produced to keep from freezing you lips to the microphonium!

This is quite the winter. Many hikers around here are wearing snow shoes - very popular this year with a base of over 30" of snow. Just like a ski resort. It's interesting that right on schedule we are getting the coldest temps of the year now. The Earth has a mass inertia of about 30 days, so the shortest day of the year, Dec 20th + 30 days = about January 20th, right now. We will look back at the yearly temperature chart and see it bottom over the next few days - most likely. BTW, It's so cold that the local flasher was caught describing himself to women... T

Use an "AM Courtesy Filter" to limit transmit audio bandwidth +-4.5 KHz, +-6.0 KHz or +-8.0 KHz when needed. Easily done in DSP.

It's not over for you Easties yet. Look at this GFS outlook for February 5.
Looks like another snowy noreaster brushing the I-95 corridor followed by temps near -30C approaching New England. Look where the -20C / -4F line is...Covering all of NJ, NY and PA. Warmer in the Yukon than Tennessee.
California looks like a great place to be next month.
This is an outlook for two weeks out, not a precise forecast.

My Global Warming Theory...........Where is Al BTW.................
The cold air from the North Pole is LEAKING down to us and further South. If there was a way to keep all this cold air where it belongs, then there would not be any warrming up of the perma-frost and galciers, etc etc etc..........like keeping the refrigerator door opened Maybe those HAARP transmitters should be turned off. And China turn off their air defense system. Some huge RF generator that wipes out a lot of the 40M band in SE Asia. my 1 pesos worth Fred

It's about 14 out now but it's supposed to go down to -13 tonight. I'm excited for that and will be planning to take an evening walk to take in that wonderfully crisp air.

Air this cold affects my breathing. Hard for me to breath in cold air. This is 'staying inside WX'. I have the woodalene stove cranking and it is a nice 76 degrees in here. I'll get on 50.4 AM at 5PM and talk to the locals with a nice glass of 'red stuff'

Thought about snow shoeing down by the river. Then decided that hot coffee and listening in to the QRP net while putting around the shack was better.
As long as the truck starts in the morning, all will be good.

Ah, what a bunch of wussies. Has everyone forgot the record temps this summer? My vegetable garden wouldn't produce anything because of the heat. Got one meal's worth of green beans the entire season, and the tomatoes that ripened were about the size of grapes. Everybody has been so spoilt by the unseasonably mild winters the past 15-20 years, that when we finally have normal winter once again, y'all scream out in agony.
