I am looking for info or documentation on this Viking 6N2 Transverter ser #1017

for a renovation project

That is pretty kool!! As much old stuff as I have worked on, I have never seen one of those before. However it must be the companion to the Valiant II since it is styled just like it!!

Thanks for the quick replys.  I contacted Waseca. They are going to give me a call back. This unit was probably a short run. The final is a 6146 and has it's own power supply.

Looks like the one that was on ebay not too long ago.  When it was listed I looked all over for documentation but I came up with only a mention on this page http://www.muchstuff.com/xmttube2.htm FWIW.   A quick scan of old QST's was not fruitful either.

Good luck with this Mark. I'd be interested in any documentation or other info you come up with.

Interesting that "muchstuff.com" says final is 5894 and Mark says the final is a 6146. Most likely much of the circuitry of the 6N2 transmitter was massaged into this rig. Once you figure out what the drive frequency is (14 MHz, 28 MHz, etc.), trouble shooting, if you have to, probably wouldn't be that difficult. Looks like the same external box that was used for their SSB adapter.

Thanks guys for all the posts!   The crystals that were installed are 22.000 MC and 38.666 MC Therefore
10 meters should be the input. just have to figure what the drive is. I spoke to EF Johnson this afternoon. They are going to look at old manuals and schematics that have been archived.  They're not sure if they have the info. . The tube compliment is (2) OB2 (2) 6CX8 (2) 7558 (1) 6146A

I would suspect the drive is coupled into the 7558, so probably no more then 1 to 3 watts would be necessary.

This unit is a Transverter not to be confused with the 6N2converter This unit was manufactured around the time of the Viking Valiant II

I don't see where anyone is confusing it with the 6N2 converter unless I missed something. Note that transverters can also be called transmitting converters.

I spoke to the folks at Waseca Minn. They said that they were stumped over the origin of the Transverter. They said it might be a proto type model or a production model that didn't make it to market. If anyone has info on this unit please contact me.
