Besides the extra range, 200Khz to 500Khz and the different tube complement of the BC-348, what is performance difference between BC-348 and BC-312/342? The BC-348 seems to be the most wanted receiver.

i have both a 342 and 348, and the 312/342 is much more selective due to the lower IF (455 vs. 915KC). the 342 crystal filter is better too. the 348 has better audio, and while bigger is much lighter and easier to move around. in terms of noise figure and sensitivity though both are really about the same. both of my receivers are stock except for the BC348 AC power supply which is a kit (by Harvey Radio)  my father put in when he bought it "new" in 1946. both are very reliable and have a high "coolness factor". i have the BC348 paired with an ART-13 and it makes an excellent AM station. my only gripe is that the BC348 is a bit wide for 75 AM at night.

I use a pocket transistor radio PCB hooked up on the last IF tube's grid and tuned on the 915 KHz IF. It makes a great 2 - conversion receiver with own AGC loop in each IF chain. However, I've replaced a magnetic antenna by a shilded can.
