Well, I finally got around to working some on my push-pull 812 rig. For quite a while it has been up against a wall waiting for me to get back to it. Actually, this place was too crowded to get it out!
The first shot is a "before" of the RF deck. Notice the nice layer of crud. The whole rig looks like it was at the outlet of a dryer vent.
Picture 2 is after a days work on the chassis and the wiring. BTW, if you have not tried putting variable caps and other items in the dishwasher to clean them up, "What are you waiting for?" The handbook is from 1947 and has the article the deck was made from.
Picture 3 is a view of the exciter and modulator deck. As you can see, I have a lot more work to do. Too bad it won't be ready for the Heavy Metal Rally this year.

Great pictures. Hang in there. Rome wasn't built in a day. We need more pics from other builders. We cant find them in the Ham magazines. These are the things the newer hams will never experience. SO SAD!

I like the pictures of the old rigs myself.  Cheesy
One of the things I need to do with this rig, after it is cleaned up, is to make it safe. Much of the HV wiring is 600 volt insulated house wire, routed through ceramic tubes and such. Most of that will be replaced with ignition wire. Also, there are no fuses in this rig.
Another safety issue is that it is in an open rack (home made). I will need to find some screen or some other covering for the rig. I have seen some nice perforated aluminium that would work. Not only am I uncomfortable with it being "open", but I am sure the cat would get zapped in it at some time.
You can really date the age of this rig by the fact that the front panels are not metal. A type of masonite was used for every deck. No TVI problems back then!
The most amazing thing is that the guy who built this was never a licensed Ham. He belonged to a local radio club and the fellows there helped him build and check the rig out. According to his widow, he could never master morse code well enough to get his license.
