The shoutbox has been getting little use on the site.
Over the last few months I have noticed many using the Forum to announce they are on the air. I thought it would be great to have some form of a ( cluster ) type system for the AM'ers. Since we did not need a full blown cluster system I have modified the shoutbox to be used as a reporting system.
Since the shoutbox is a real time device it would work fine to have info inputed and then displayed.
I have added a box in the left hand column to list the reported info. It will list 20 inputs.
To enter data go to the Site Directory and select ON THE AIR
The next step is to provide a RSS feed so you won't even have to be on the site to get the info. a small pop up window will appear when a new report has been entered as long as you are connect to the internet.
Enter Data in this format --- Activity reporting - Freq - Signal
Example : - w2inr -1490 - 600 over s9
The time is added automatically
Anyway I thought we would give it a try and see how things play out. I will add a RSS button as soon as I get that working.
IDEAS?

I'm at work today and PW but this interface does a good job killing time while my tech does set up changes before the next test. And I thought I would be in the woods today working on antennas

Great idea, G.
I can see myself using it when looking for 75M coast to coast activity. When conditions are prime late at night, nothing like a little announcement that you are sitting there looking for PW stations that normally would not hear you or not be there at all.
A suggestion: Put the "subject" title field at the beginning to grab attention and summarize post. Like, "Looking for west coast" or "Calling CQ on 3675 now", etc. and then have the details follow as you suggested.
The RSS will be a great alert.

Use an "AM Courtesy Filter" to limit transmit audio bandwidth +-4.5 KHz, +-6.0 KHz or +-8.0 KHz when needed. Easily done in DSP.

Alright so what happens after you post? I don't know what RSS means (in my world it has only meant Radio Service Software, a Motorola product).

Look down the left hand column , it will list the entries.
The RSS fed is a feed that lets you keep in touch remotely . You don't have to in the forum to see it.

Paul RSS has been bugging me all day. No wonder an ugly flash back to the dark days of working for mororola shlock shop. The only good thing about working for them was the Tee shirts. I still have them and wear them all the time and they are just starting to look their age from 12 years ago.

RSS - really simple syndication. Been a big deal on the internet for the last 2-3 years or so. It's been around since about 2002. Driven largely by blogs, but Web sites now use it too. Atom is a similar technology.
Do a Google and get smart.

The "on the air" feature is great.
What happened to the button that let you see the unread posts since last login?
It was on the right side.
Thanks

Recommend putting a time in the On The Air postings - dont see any in the ones posted to date, even though Gary says the time is added automatically.
