Tim,
Works for me.  I'm using a DX-60 / HG-10 VFO to excite a pair of HB 4-125's.  I keep the final current just below spec and have more than enough grid drive for the HB.  I think you will have to mod the DX-60 for PTT and sequence it to have things start and stop properly.

Although its slightly off topic but on topic with Heathkit, I've always wanted to modify an Apache TX-1, make it one massive Mod-box and Exciter w/vfo, modify a Chipawea or Warrior to be the PA and build the power supply to power both. Kinda liked the idea of making them look stock on the outside and keeping with the original Heathkit nostalgia while on the inside they were completely different.

Instead of calling it the Heathkit TX-1 I'd call it the Heathkit TX-368!

The DX-60 sounds like a(n)  FB  exciter for the Big RIg.  Too bad that they do not cover 160  (as I recall).    A friend,  WA6CPY,  uses a DX-100 as an exciter for PP 100 TH's in class C.

In the ebb of the Soalr Cycle,  160 is sure a nice respite ... often the only game in town for short/medium haul QSO's.
