Jim Candela has sent word a video produced by a group of California hams 20 years ago has been preserved as a video that can be downloaded. It's about 22 minutes, 50 megs, and worth every bit of bandspace to grab it.
I am watching spellbound at an interview they conducted with Edgar F. Johnson his own self.

Alright, I take it as a challenge:  East Coast?  Can we crank a video ?
--------
Hi All,

My son Paul just transferred the old SPAM (Society for the
Preservation of
Amplitude Modulation) VHS video tape to a digital AVI file. This was
circulated to me by the late Floyd Dunlap, WA5TWF. The video was
produced by
Dave Ramser KG6AB and Norm Scott WB6TRQ. This video was very well done.
I
really enjoyed the interview with Mr. EF Johnson. My copy was on a 20
year
old tape recorded on low speed so the quality is a bit lacking, and a
high
degree of video compression results in a noticeable lip-sync offset. I
just
wish I had a better copy to digitize.

This file is over 50 mega-bytes long, so a high speed connection is
required to download this file. It should open up with Real Player
as-is if
it is your default viewer. If your preferred viewer is Media player,
you
will need to download the DivX Codec to make that work. To install the
Codec
for Windows
Media player, go to www.divx.com, download DivX play6.1, and then when
installing choose just the Codec. I use Firefox Mozilla as my browser,
and
it allows me to download files to a specific directory. Depending on
your
computer, and situation, it might be better to use a FTP program to
download
this file like we do for BAMA.

If your interested, here is the link:

Note: This web space is only temporary, so if you want this file, don't
wait
too long.

Regards,
Jim Candela

Cool video.  Thanks Paul.

The East Coast needs to do one, definitely!

Well, it's not strictly east coast, but it was made on the east coast. The link below is only about 12 Meg and should stream. The video quality is not quite what I would like (especially the faded and wipes), but I tried to keep the size reasonable. If there is interest in a higher rez version, I can produce it.

WOW I didn't know that lived anywhere linkable.

Just tried to peer at it however, and the link comes back busted.

I've got an old, tattered VHS copy somewhere....

You'll need the most recent version of Quicktime to view.

Steve, I guess I need to get the latest version of quick time, according to the message I get when I try to stream the video, but I'm reluctant to do so.

It seems as if everytime I download the latest version of any media player it dicks with my computer and makes it the default player for all the media it can...or worse.  Is this one benign, or will I regret allowing "them" into my computer, e.g. having to spend mucho time restoring things to where there were before?

Better yet, anyone got an mpg of it?  I really want to see it. (But not sure it's worth a lot of hassle)

You'll need some sort of media player to view a mpg file. What am I missing here?
