50,000 Watt WTOP on 1500Kc will drop its radio news format in March, replacing it with programming supplied by a newspaper in Washington, sports games, and other programming to be announced. The print staff of the Washington Post will offer "context" on stories in the paper, and the current staff of radio journalists on WTOP will move to FM outlets of limited range also owned by Utah-based Bonneville, a division of the Mormon Church.
WTOP has been a radio news outlet through a succession of owners since the 1960s.

And they're WHIRLWIDE!!

I wonder what the hell was behind this...?  WTOP is one of the top rated stations around here the way they are, they're just gonna be another 'me too' station.

Why would 'context' need to be provided? Generally, newspaper stories are far more in depth than radio coverage. Sounds like a cloaked extension of their editorial page. Not surprising for the Post.
