I ran across this today on that anti QRZ site.

I think this looks a lot like Tim when he was younger. I didn't know Tim then but I have seen pictures.

What do you guys think?

This thread is great. It should be called the "Tron-a-Thon" with WA1HnyYellar look alikes, pics of "Tron-esque" gear, Pussbusses, etc.

Gotta admit though, there's only one Tim Smith, our beloved WA1HLR. Beware of imitations!

72 and over to you,

There's a fyellow named Little Billy Heiland who would LOVE to have these old photos.

He's been a longtime fan of our TimTron, and once helped him mount a 50C5.

I didn't mean anything personal when I said "beware of imitators".

Speaking of Tim, does anyone have a copy of that tape he made some years back about modifying audio on rigs like the DX-100, Valiant, etc.?  I had one, but it seems to have vanished.

I want one just so I can roll on the floor and laugh my ass off listening to his comedic technical advice.  My wife even got a kick out of it.  It is just one of a kind...

I would sure like to get my hands on a copy or something.  A CD would be even better since I don't have any cassette players anymore.  I'd pay the cost of the tape/CD, postage, etc.

You mean the tape that was made by "Piss Weak Ed" some years back?

If so, I have a copy, will have to dub it onto CD for my copy is "hissette" (another Tronism).
If you don't mind waiting, I'll be glad to send u a copy for Christmas. (Can I still say Christmas?)

There is also a manual which goes along with the tape, collection of all the mods, that is still in storage in "Buffonalo" (yet again another Tronism).

What say OM?

Hey Bruce,

Yes, that's the one.  Now that I think about it, I think Ed is the one that sent me the tape.  Been a long time....

Don't mind waiting at all OM.  Let me pay you for the postage at least!  Your time is worth something too.  Just let me know when you can do one up for me and I'll send my snailmail address to you.

Thanks Bruce!

No need for anything but thanks OM, too many people have helped me out, happy to return the favor.

What do you suggest may be the best method to record from the tape onto the computer?
Thinking I'd like to do it one in digital form so I can more readily make dupes.

Hi Terry,

About the closest you will find right now is at:
http://amfone.net/ECSound/BartlesvilleTX/bvilletx.htm

I moved shortly after writing that article and the big tx is still being stored until I have time to build a shack to put it in.  I now have two tall rack cabs that everything is being installed in.  The old cabinet you see in those photos will not be used.  I actually had the modulator deck (w/849's) and the speech amp on the air before the move.  I just hooked it up to my modified BC-610 which also uses a 450TL (single).  Ran it like that for a few months.  I'm hoping to get things back on the air soon, but I said that about a year ago too...

Thanks Bruce.  When you find the time to do it, my address is good in the callbook, qrz.com, etc...

Far as transferring it to CD, I'm probably not the expert on that, however I have done it before just using the line-in jack on my soundcard from the ext. speaker jack on the other device.  Depending on the match, you might do a sample on the mic input of the sound card too, however that may provide way too much gain and distortion.  Seems I've have good luck using "line-in" as long as I can get enough audio.  Someone else here might have a better suggestion...

Brian, How is that Bartlesville transmitter going. It's a great story. There was another that I think was on Long Island, NY. That station was in an atic and looked like something right out of 1925.

I wonder if anyone knows what QST that was in?
