Old Buzzard George W1GAC was driving last week and had a mild stroke. It’s reported that his car when out of control and hit several others his car was totaled. He is in the Framingham, MA Hospital and now in recovery. George is 90 years old and has been a fixture every morning on 3.945 since 1975. I understand the Old Buzzards net has been around since 1948.

Charley W1EIZ is now filling in. He is 75. Looks as if some of us younger buzzards may have to step up to the plate if this old Buzzards Net is to survive. How about it Herb VH?

More on George W1GAC:

I called him at the Metro West Medical Center (Framingham Union Hospital), 508-383-1000, room 403. It took a while for him to recognize me. He sounded weak and drugged. The details on the accident and what happened to him are sketchy at best. I have not had a chance to visit yet...maybe this weekend. His brother and YL friend are helping.

If anyone needs help, I am in Natick, the next town over. (508) 653-3543. I can easily visit him or pass messages to him or his YL friend.

I've missed talking with him the past few years.
This is sad news, the car accident, and I'll try to call today and find out more from him.
Geez, noticing his license is expiring too, we've got to fix that.

Hi Paul:

Good catch on the license! I tried to renew his license on QRZ and they need his SSN. So I guess he has to do it. Maybe I'll put a FCC renewal form (605??) in his mailbox.

So I called the hospital today...they released him. His nurse only could say he was in good shape. I tried his home and no answer. I tried his bother's and no answer.

So I will try to chase him down.

Paul, can you call me at home sometime for a chat? Leave your number if you get a message.

Thanks!

In an earlier post, Terry said that Charlie W1EIZ is 75.  I could be wrong, but
I think Charlie is actually 85 years young.

Strange but good I guess.
I called the place jusst before 5P tonight thinking he'd be up for a meal.
After a LONG time on hold, I punched in the room extension, then got a "Patient Information" clerk who put me on hold 2x, then asked for the name, then put me through, only to get no answer on 10+ rings.

Sorry to hear that Terry, fine bunch of gentlemen on the net, checked in a few weeks back, plan to do it again.
Anyone have George's address, ok on QRZ, a card is in order.

Hi All:

Talked with O'l man George this morning. He is home and feeling OK.

I renewed his ham license for him online.

His home number is 508-872-4530. He is usually home 1-2PM weekdays.
