I have had a few qso's recently outside of the 40 meter "AM Window". Especially at nite.
A couple of qso's were with hams who had never operated AM before and were trying out their rice boxes on this "new" mode.
They seemed to enjoy AM, and I encouraged them to continue AM operation.
So there you have it, there is life below 7290 KHZ!!!!!!  So spin those dials and as Moe put it...."SPREAD OUT!!!"

Hi Lance:

I regularly operate AM between 7280 and 7290, usually around 7285 or 7283 at night.
VOA is ALWAYS on 7290 at my qth at night, so this freq is unusable most of the time, whereas
85 is unoccupied.  In fact, I have a regular Friday night sked with N0BD, Dave, in Ames, Iowa
on 7285!  So, we are spreading out somewhat!  I run a homebrew 813 modulated by 100TH's,
325 Watts carrier out.  Hope to work you sometime.

One of the usual ssb QRMers who own 7284 was recently almost dead in the hospital so you will find a little less deliberate interference for a while. I wish him well.

Wow Dave, I think I'd avoid that hospital.
Sounds like he'd be better off flinging himself in front of a speeding bus or down a flight a stairs.

40m nighttime has always been good, with a path reliably to Florida down to K4CR and WW9W/4 a Punta Gorda. Dave, W9AD also cruises the band, and it's nice to know there are others.

Anyone up for a sked with Annapolis?

One of my favorite places....nite time is almost impossible, but cross paths with quite a few AM'rs on the top of 40.
