This time it's the RCA BTA-1M, a classic "shutter door" transmitter with a pair of 833A modulating another pair.
The quad of triodes is arrayed left to right and observed through the tiny glass panes in this rollback door, the operation of which is very similar to a rolltop desk.

There is an unmistakable sound associated with a rescue mission like this.
The sound of grunting, sweating and logistics.

Here's a small MP3 to catch the flavor.

Soon after, we took a group shot:

Full details coming soon.

Cool deal Paul, would love to see the details.

That is a FB TX, I had its baby brother 500MX, but the BTA1 really is a classic BA design.

Does it have a new home?

Most definitely Bruce !!  Post delivery pix at K3MSB !!!

Just what every basement needs, a large RCA transmitter to hold it in place!

Its a fine TX Mark, saw my first RCA MX at Fred Hammond VE3HC museum and searched until I found its little brother the 500MX.
I sold that to Al W1UX when I was getting ready to move to Maine.

As I recall it had beautiful iron, cleaned up with nice RCA tags on top, very buzzardly indeed.

Is it going to be a monoband rig or do you plan to use it on other than 160?

Just let us know when you get that gem on, would love to hear the maiden voyage!

Hi Mark,

I've always thought that a pair of 833A's X 833A's were the cooliest tube line up going for AM.  Mike/ZE  runs that tube line up as well as a few others and it's loud, clean and classy.

Haven't heard your plans yet, Mark, though I know you have the skills to put in a pair of vacuum variables with counters for C1/C2 and a  band switched coil final, along with a switched or broadband input tuning. What a cornvenient, band hop agility rig that would make!

The audio file of the guys pushing and grunting was pretty funny.

Use an "AM Courtesy Filter" to limit transmit audio bandwidth  +-4.5 KHz, +-6.0 KHz or +-8.0 KHz when needed.  Easily done in DSP.
