*NICE* troll, George!
I was in a mother sandstorm in Khartoum, Sudan once (on service for my country). THey call them "haboobs" there, and you end up literally having to shovel out your house after one. Anyway, the one I was in also combined with a thunderstorm so it was raining mud.
I hate that place.
I forget the author now, but a short time back I read a travel book about the Middle East/North Africa. Yea, I know, a travel book about the Middle East, that was before the recent maddness.
Wish I could recall the author's name, it was a blast, quite well written.
Anyway, his comment about his short stay in Khartoum was that "this is the way that the world ends". His description of the city was very much what would could expect to find after an atomic blast.
Crumbling infrastructure, infrequent electrical sevice, potholes on major city streets, beggers and homeless scattered about. Criminals all about, an indifferent goverment. In short, it was not a very attractive place to visit.
