Making AM GREAT Again!

« Reply #25 on: February 03, 2026, 05:25:59 AM »

As I've said before.

I have an archive of this site and links referenced by the site.

I have spoken with a couple people about this in depth.

I have been asked to upload the archive to the Internet Archive by at least one person whom was involved in the beginnings of this place.

I will honor that request.  However, I will NOT do anything until the plug is pulled here.  Copyright.

I know Steve lost his wife and pretty much stepped away from the site at that point.  I have not heard anything else but if ypu compare dates of that tragedy and the downfall of pretty much anything more than Pete's moderation, they coincide.

I've offered to revive this site, upgrade it, etc.  I've put this out on multiple forums, and got a single response from anyone that could say they where at least here in the beginning and they asked me to put it on the internet archive, which I will comply with.

It's just utterly sad that nobody will step up and say "we could give a flying shit about amfone anymore.  Here's the keys, please honor the legacy we built", which would be my entire intention.

Instead, its just going to die.

And no, id say without anything from K4HX, dont donate again.  Why?  How do we know the site will still be here?

Id rather take that 50 to hundred dollars and buy a new hard drive to hold this site, since it seems that's going to be around longer.

As soon as the web hosting bill doesn't get paid, that will be it.  We may be looking at that now, what with the throttling, the inane hours of actual operation, etc.

Sad, but with zero response from anyone that can actually do anything and the only moderator that exists now being one that gives cryptic or just plain BS answers, this is it.

There is one other site I read infrequently, Eham.  I was over there the other day and noticed their Antique forum is pretty much inactive like here.  Only a few people post which indicates that traffic on the topic of AM has declined a lot.

If there are costs involved, which there is, it is not something but a few want to bear given the lack of activity.  I have been a member of this site since inception having moved over from the merger when Brian/W5AMI moved his operation here.  Maybe it is time to let this go and if someone wants to move it to and Achive site ok.

If there is an "Antique" forum on Eham, it must be hidden Maybe that's why it's inactive.  Huh
Can you provide a link to this "Antique" forum?
The only forum that I can find there is the "Boat Anchors" forum that touches on "antique radios" in its description but it seems active.
And "Antique" is not just "AM". SSB  has been around since the 1920's and CW even longer.

I would venture a bet he is referring to the Boat Anchor forum which is pretty active, just not now.

Check out the QRZ Amplitude Modulation forum.

Most people that stopped posting here left for that forum.

OK Picky Pete.  It is the Boatanchors section.  Your post does nothing to create an atmosphere for people to want to be here.  I have watched you do this very thing over the years and it is not the kind of thing people want to participate in.  I have watched you disparage others for no apparent reason, and I am mystified as to why.
