I need to replace my present headphones (Sennheiser HD 280 pro) as they are too heavy and put too much pressure on my ears. On the plus side, they do have good fidelity when listening to music and broadcast quality A.M.
I am looking for some phones that are light in weight, not ear squashing, and have good fidelity. What can you recommend?
Thanks, Roland

Sony MDR-7506.  Covers all the bases, no pun intended.

Repair parts are available, too.

At the bottom end of the price range - Onn at Walmart for $10 -12. Good to pick up a pair anyway, can't go wrong.

I bought Lafayette's F-990 headphones back in 69 or 70. Sold for $29.95. Weight 2.5 pounds. I still use these all the time for my amateur radio activity. Great fidelity and comfortable. Very durable for headphones 50+ years old. They pop up on ebay from time to time. Check the Lafayette 1970 catalog for specs.

I agree. A friend very graciously gave me a pair of those a number of years ago. I also have a pair of Kenwood HS-5 headphones, but I like the Lafayettes better.

Buy these, Koss KTXPRO1. Very light weight comfortable on ear design and have excellent audio. I have the 7506 Sony’s and I actually like the KTXpro1 better for radio audio. You can buy them for 20 to 25 dollars. They also have an inline volume control which is handy and it doesn’t take much to drive them.

Thank you! These all seem to be fine choices. I will investigate them further. I did notice that the Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO headphones come in 34, 80, and 250 ohms.
What is the advantage of one impedance of another?

It is not that important except if you are a perfectionist/hi ender.
It is only a question of an exact or closed enough impedance matching between your audio device and the earphones.
When a company offers though three impedance levels means they care a bit more then others for fidelity.
80 Ohms is a very good compromise for all around use with today devices. Older devices can have unpredictable earphones output impedances, you have to check their manuals.
If they will be used only in one audio device with known earphones output impedance then choose the closer value of those 3 options to get a closer matching.
