Although I have the ultimate respect for Mal NC4L and his overshoot mod does work. There is a simpler way to stop the overshoot without all the complication of cutting the AF board and 8 Volt regulator and you don't even have to pull a board. If you look at the wiring schematic you will know notice the mode switch segment S-1F goes to the counter board J01/P54. This segment of the mode switch is responsible for the changing mode indictor on the display. It also has a fix 8 volts powering it which is what we need for the AM modulator.
My mod is this simple. Go to the top of the counter board Connect a wire to the anode of D-06 that is connected AM-N on the counter schematic, run this wire down to the AM unit. Cut the AM TX8V wire from plug P60 Pin 1 (leaving enough to solder the new wire to the plug) and connect to your new wire from D-06 , shrink tube all connections and your done. When you go to AM the mode switch S-1F now power's the AM modulator with a fixed (AM only both TX&RX) 8 volts and the overshoot is gone. The voltage disappears in all other modes but AM ........Simple , effective and easy and no regulator needed, Just a piece of wire and a understanding of the radio.
