I use that found in Western Electric gear, pretty much same as the Navy way.

I recall the older ARRL Handbooks described a right and wrong way to lay on the lacing.  When I was a JN, I had several spools of the WE waxed cable lacing twine, and would spend a lot of time making
very professional looking harnesses between the various pieces of equipment in the shack.  And then 2 weeks later ripping them all apart when I wanted to change things around!

When my wife and I worked at an aerospace company, years ago, that was one of the things she did. To this day, when I salvage wire from an old chassis, it wounds me to cut all that stuff apart, knowing how much work went into it.
