Two days before Sen. Rick Santorum introduced a bill that critics say would restrict the National Weather Service, his political action committee received a $2,000 donation from the chief executive of AccuWeather Inc., a leading provider of weather data.

The disclosure has renewed criticism of the measure, which Santorum, R-Pa., maintains would allow the weather service to better focus on its core mission of getting threatening weather info out in a "timely and speedy basis."

Opponents say the bill would endanger the public by preventing the dissemination of certain weather data, and force taxpayers to pay for the data twice. The bill would prevent the weather service from competing for certain services offered by the private sector.

Sure is lousy timing - but the Senate and Congress are both as crooked as a dog's hind leg, and I think we know this stuff is going on all the time.

I have to wonder if Santorum is being spotlighted now because he's a Republican who voted against cloture, while crap from others who voted party-line is not being exposed.

Not at all surprising Don.

Little Ricky has a habit of doing this sort of thing.  For example, Santorum recently sponsored legislation to exempt restaurant workers from a minimum wage hike -- just days before Outback Steakhouses hosted a fundraiser on his behalf.

This is a tricky one, beltway bandits or weather.
Local clowns have not issued an accurate forcast in weeks so would I pay twice.
Heck I could do a better job looking up each day.

maybe this can be outsourced Huh

The  extensive weather info you now can get now for free at weather.gov will now cost you at accuweather if this flies. Nothing is sacred

It would only cost you if you receive I guess.  So don't receive it and they won't get paid. Seems self defeating to me.

Thats true. But if you things like animated local or national radar etc you would have to subscribe. They would no longer be functions on the NWS site.http://www.sptimes.com/2005/06/01/news_pf/Opinion/Forecast_for_a_fee.shtml

It's all because of Halliburton and those aliens from Area 51. Watch out for the black helicopters.
