I've just imported a Harvey Wells TBS50D transmitter from the US. The manual shows that the correct PA tube is an 807, whereas mine has a 6146 fitted. Does anyone know if this was an official modification or not, has it featured in any old radio magazines in the US?

Thanks

Hi Andy,

I have never heard that Harvey Wells produced any of the TBS series with a 6146 final tube.  It is more likely that someone who previously owned the rig did the conversion.

Agreed, I've never seen one with anything other than an 807 for the PA.

Hi Andy

What you are looking for is this: https://www.swedeart.com/harvey/html/bulletins.html Check out #15. Rumor has it that it doesn't make much of a difference between the 807 or 6146.

Cheers

It almost seems the 6146 was made to honor the 807's ubiquitous usefulness as form factors and vacuum tube technology changed.

It's also mentioned in the Swap and Shop article.  https://www.swedeart.com/harvey/html/tbs-50.html
