FYI Folks: 7160 is smack in the middle of the DX window. The Extra portion of 40 phone is the DX window. Operating AM there is a really bad idea, bad for our image and will piss a lot of people off. Please don't go there on AM. Promoting operating AM with 5KC between QSO's isn't very smart either.
I can't find any reference to an imaginary 40 meter DX window for Extras. Please point this out with some documented reference. Why are they so special? Whenever I operate 40 meters, I can find "DX" from 7.125 MHz up to and sometimes beyond 7.2 MHz.
Further, AM is quite popular between 7120 KHz and 7160 KHz around the world.
Designated AM frequency in South America is 7120 KHz
Designated AM frequency in Australia is 7125 KHz
Designated AM frequency in United Kingdom is 7143 KHz
Designated AM calling frequency in Australia is 7146 KHz
And, in U.S., a designated AM frequency since the 70's has been 7160 KHz
So, my take on this, is that AM operating on 7160 KHz has been going on for almost 50 years, so let the Extras and the Advanced Class operators live with it since they obviously have for many years. No one owns a range of frequencies for their own use. Grrrrrrrrrr
