If interested in homebrewing something
easy to build;

I have gotten out 250 miles, at night, on
3938 KHZ with my latest PW/QRP xmtr circuit.

I was using a D104 mic,  straight into the
TDA2003 modulator, but had R7 as 470K,
and had three 10 ohm resistors paralleled for
R4 to get more audio, which was clipping.

I even plugged in my electric guitar for a test.

you can use a TDA2002 or TDA2003 or
the http://www.nteinc.com/  equivalents.
NTE1288 or NTE1232

It was a common car audio amplifier IC.

this xmtr is cystal controlled, but I also had my VFO
driving it.  the basic schematic is at the bottom of
the webpage.  I added a voltage regulator.
 But I came up with another VFO design I'll post,
after I re-build it.   This VFO will hopefully be able to drive a
old tube xmtr.
