Does anyone know how to align the Vfo Dial?  Mine is slipping in the gears..

there is a grease in the gearing that tends to dry out and gum up the works ....as a test, you can add a few drops of oil to see if it frees up .... you can go with this or remove old grease and use a white lithium or moly based light grease sparingly

Drake advised to never use grease on the plastic gears. It will cause them to swell.

True .. but late model R-4Cs in the 28K serial no. range at least, did have metal gears (don't recall exactly when the change was made).

Is it possible the lever that locks the dials in position has slipped out of place?

OK thanks.. I guess I need to supply more info.. I will put it back on bench tomorrow to see what it does and doesn't do right..

A little more info..

 Can anybody tell me how to align
the plastic freq dials so they correspond to the received freq? Is
there a way to crank the tuning dial all the way clockwise to the
bottom end of the band and realign the the 10 khz and 100 khz dialfaces
to 0 and 0?

Depending on your particular VFO there will be either one or two spring loaded metal levers between the dial and the VFO can. Usually there’s one. Press the lever and it will release the dial. The you will be able to rotate it by hand and align them.
