Picked up  a tener this weekend. It was like new and as I suspected had some wiring errors so has never been used. I just got it going. Have a 29500khz rock and some for the 28s as well. Where is the party?

If there was one, it probably would be around 29.0 MHz, give or take a couple of years.  Smiley

So no one on ten? Or what is the deal? I have a 29500 rock in now. Because that  is what it came with.

So far in this year's "E" season, I've not heard one AM signal. 29.0 MHz is the "unofficial" listening/calling frequency.
You can follow the Solar-Terrestrial Data from various web sites and prop maps to check for openings, but a low power "Tener" on the air as the solar cycle plummets to minimum can probably only bring loneliness. But, like a lot of things, you never know.  Smiley

Typically, 10 meter AM is found between 29.0 to 29.2 MHz (which is the band plan defined area for AM). Most of the AM activity generally is found between 29.0 and 29.1 MHz. At 29.5 MHz and above, you'll generally find FM and FM repeaters.

I believe that radio uses 3rd overtone xtals. Some of the old CB RX xtals were in the 28.8 range. Thats what I use in my Tener. Or the old Johnson 6 and 2 vfo that I tweaked to work on those freqs. I have worked Europe with my Tener barefoot and with a small amp. The rx in those things works well for what they are.

28.905 is a lot closer to the normal calling frequency of 29.0. The only signals you might find at 29.5 are FM signals.

Right now as I type, the majority of the 10 meter activity is down on the low end (around 28.250 to 28.300) working CW.

Worked an awful lot of 10m back in the 1980s. Much of it CW.  Was a great band for dx  .
Russia early morning eventuaĺly British Isles as day progressed Spain and later Austria. By 3 pm Africa progressing to the mid Atlntic Islands as supper time approached. The Caribean and then South America would appear and eventually Mexico. If I could stay up.long enuf Australia and just on ce Antartica . Someday the band will come back. I hope I am still here.
