Pretty Funny. I guess we skip over Thanksgiving these days and right to New Years. Noticed an AM 'qso' last night on (at the time) semi-precisely 1884.878kHz next to K4KYV's strappescent signal on 1880. Looked nice so qsy'd over to listen. The screen capture has the date and time, etc. So the '1885 qso' was Irb's whistling overlying Christmas carols. Then a bit later "Calling CQ America!".... pots and pans scrubbing while supposedly listening for replies. All the vintage 'VYZ' goodies. "Irb" off and on, mostly on for over a half hour until I went to bed. Don't know when it started. Slight fading on KYV, no fading on local signals, but fairly severe fading on "Irb," I'd say about New England distance from me. To Irb's ghost, including the 'qso' semi-precision freq. (hopefully not a crystal) the freq. jumps, the initial R/Y burp, ...and not to mention many know who has this New England set of precise tapes. Thanks for the entertainment, but.... Hey, you can ID and then replay Irb tapes for documentary purposes any time and with all the remarks you care to make in qso. Just be sure to have someone on the other end occasionally.

Yeah, I heard it last night as well. I could hear the DX-100 buzz, clashing of pots and pans, Irb whistling to patriotic music etc...
Irb up in New Russia in the Adirondacks. I wonder what ever became of his property up north?

My camp near Westport is about 5 miles east of his QTH in New Russia. His long time friend Nick now owns the property. His tower has been taken down, the house was painted and power upgraded and a new modern garage/house has been built. It was recently logged for timber. I think he told me that he owned about 26 acres up there.
It's on top of a hill and a great place for radio with a view that is fantastic!

Use an "AM Courtesy Filter" to limit transmit audio bandwidth +-4.5 KHz, +-6.0 KHz or +-8.0 KHz when needed. Easily done in DSP.

"It's those hiss-hiss boom-boomers."?
That was Irb's reference to AM testers who pounded the mike boom for lows and sss'd for highs... or just a general name for the hi-fi gang A few more: "Empire Buster" "Kings, nobles and priests to the scaffolds.." "Those who would give up liberty for safety deserve neither.."

I don't recall any Irbism's because it's been so long but I do remember Irb and Bob K1AJL always talking at each but not to each other. I always found their "conversations" to be entertaining.

"Empire Buster" That's what he called his Desk KW! I now own it and have yet to put it on the air? I think it is at a stage where it would fire up on the air with about two hours of work? Maybe Irb's ghost has left it by now Lookout, 75 will never be the same when the Empire Buster lives again

And how did we forget Irb's chance encounter with the Prime Minister?
Prime Minister: "Irb if ya don't shut up I'm gonna kick ya in the god-damned balls next time I'm in Jersey! Shut the f**k up!!"
Irb: "Wow. Are you drunk? Are you on narcotics? Sounds like you've gone berserk! Who-who is this? "
I must admit I miss many of the old timers and the craziness of days gone by... [sigh]

But you know, I had some pretty decent conversations with him when I was WA3YPI in N. Pa. He'd remember where I lived, the local deer population, last conversation, just about everything. ...and don't forget his precious woods, his kiddy tours of the property.. Oh, ok, there was the R/w road easement fight. I didn't blame him for some of his positions and like most all things past, we revere our youth and wish time would freeze forever so I actually sort of miss him.
