Didn't even know there WAS such a thing … (??)  Never seen one, read about one, and I don't recall any references in the usual vintage transmitter books.

It actually doesn't even make any sense. The Ranger II was manufactured from 1961 to 1965. "CD" mania was pretty much over. Does it have a cad plated chassis, PTT, over mod limiting circuit, wide band frequency coverage (no ham bands posted on the band switch) or is there just a CD sticker on it?

Your post title says Ranger 2 cdc. Now you're saying it's a Viking I? Two totally different things.

N9AXLs Viking II CDC is what I was referring to, especially with how he described it.

"Looks like" might mean it was transplanted into a Viking I cabinet? No idea. Not sure how the two would look much different otherwise. I have seen photos of them installed in racks and console arrangements back in the day, maybe one got separated from its case.

It's an interesting version of the venerable old design. Especially with the cold war CD logo.

You said: "it LOOKS like a Viking 1. it says Viking II CDC on the label."

This is a Viking I (first picture). The Viking I uses a different type of cabinet from the Viking II (2nd picture-yours). The number of crystal sockets was common in all Viking II's.

Thanks for the clarification.  As I said this is new to me and I was thrown off by the case design -- which does, admittedly, have some similarities -- and I was looking at the "II" as a stylized "1" -- that's what being interested in font design will get you.  Hi. I'll try and be more careful in my future descriptions.  I do appreciate you setting me straight on this.

Anyway, when I finish my current project I will get started on this.  I looked over the manual today and it seems straightforward in design. Lots of cleaning and capacitor replacement in my future.

I actually think my first order of business will have to be and build some new workbenches.  Not sure I have enough space in my current shack for this along with my current lineup of equipment.
