After a few weekends of changing out caps and a few resistors, replacing three 6SK7's and going thru the the CRV-20130 power supply. I connected the original type power cable to the CRV-46147, RBB-1 receiver. Flipped the switch and shes alive. Needless to say, these two units take up much bench space and are truly 80 pound boat-anchors. Cruised the 40, 20 and 15 meter bands and was real happy with the outcome and performance. The reason I posted this is not for a pat on the back but, listen to this...........On the left/middle front of the panel, below the band switch there is a window with a card in it to record band, date, freq, etc. While cleaning up the front panel I removed the two thumb screws and two cards fell out. No writing on either card. I cleaned up the area and when I started to put it back together, I noticed some writing, in pencil on the back of one card. A little faded but this is what it says.

"PEARL HARBOR
 AUG. 1943"

The serial number of this receiver is #143.
Another piece of history saved from the scrap pile.

Made for the Navy Bureau of Ships by RCA Corp...Very well made..cost a lot..there is  RBA, RBB, RBC..The RBA is low freq box...RBB and RBC cover the higher freqs...requires external power supply which will power 2 recievers..Audio output is thru a panel phone jack...said to be able to power up to 25 sets of phones..I use my RBC for 15 and 20 meter AM...it will dip far enough below 4 mHz to recieve 3885...good selectivity thru a 3 position filter...tunes SSB very easily in the CW position ..

I got this a few years ago off Craig's List, RBC RX with power supply, cleaned it and brought it up on a variac, seems to work OK. Right now it's stored due to lack of room in the shack.

Sorry, I miss posted the model number. It is a CRV-46148D, RBC-1. 4 to 27 mhz.
Next project is the RBB-1

Bit of a mystery there since 46148-D is an RBC-5 model (according to my Navy Catalog of Communications Equipment) and the RBC-5 contract was 25 September 1950. The -D model included the coupling kit for IF output to an FSK converter or panadapter.

Here's a quess - it may have started as an RBC-1 (2 Sept 1941 contract) and been converted in the shipyard at some time. The RBB and RBC started life in black wrinkle but were re-painted grey when overhauled at the shipyard.
I'd like to know the contract number..
Cheers

Good information to know. My guess then is that the card, which was blank on the front side was later inserted into the window for some reason. Its any bodys guess how it got there.
