Must have been a major crap-out this time.  As always Steve and whoever else was involved in getting it "neutralized",  I thank you.

Thanks for your support. I apologize that the forum was down for as long as it was. It caught me at a bad time. We're working to make sure the stability the site has had for so many years will return and continue. Your patience is greatly appreciated.

Post away!!!

I agree, it's good to be back. Steve gets full credit for the hard stuff like this. He's the site & software pro. Johnny gets to enjoy dealing with the daily list of spammers. I've got it easy - I just sweep the floors and shoo away the flies.

Well, when you consider the source(s), it's easy enough to understand. If you can't be the center of attention constantly despite your best efforts, it's time to demonize. Social media is the perfect place for that kind of activity. Or anywhere else that keeps them from annoying the good folks here.  Wink

Thanks for the effort needed to get the site back up.  We all appreciate it.

BUT, when I bring up a post or whatever, I get a dozen or so lines starting with "Deprecated....."

And I cannot get a posted photo to show up.  Just a very large text file.

"Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln...."  You know the rest.

Thanks again

Nice work!  Properly managing a server is not easy that's for sure.  Then throw forum oversight on top of that and - well, you get the idea!  Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!

YES,  indeed,  very,  very nice to see this great site again online!

It has been too long since I've contributed to the upkeep/maintenance/upgrading of the site.

This has certainly been a terrific resource to me,  and a place to explore all of the essential historic information.

Thank You to all of the amfone.net  Crew for getting the site back up,  and for keeping it running so smoothly in the past.

73  Thanks,   Vic

Fortunately it's just a spare time hobby forum, not a site someone is using remotely for robotic brain surgery.  Shocked

We certainly appreciate the patience and understanding of you folks as we shake the bugs out. AMfone has had a reputation for rock solid reliability throughout its existence, which makes these little issues all the more glaring. We'll get back there as time allows.

In the meantime, try not to stare at those superfluous lines of code at the top of the page. It'll make your eyes cross, and if someone comes along and slaps you on the back, they'll stick that way.

If it's not one thing, it's another. I think the crazy code at the top is from the portal software that runs the overall site. It's way old and needs to be replaced. It will probably just go away for a while and just the forum will be available. If all you use is the forum (probably 99% of our members), you won't notice any change. If you often go to some of the links in the menu bar on the left side of the page, those won't be available.

If anyone has experience with a good current website portal package, please contact me.

The regular expression replace function /e modifier has been depreciated.  Which does not necessarily mean it will stop working (at least hopefully not for a long time!).  Usually deprecated functions/features are kept, but are not enhanced.  They can go away, but often in my experience, don't.

As a stopgap measure, you can, in the PHP  config file (ini file), turn off depreciation warning messages.  Or you can put a line at the start of the code to do the same thing.

The other warning may be more serious, depending on how and where smf_out.php is used.

A long term strategy may be to find the same forum/website functionality in a Python based package.  Python code is much easier to work with than I find PHP to be (Python is less cryptic), and it is very powerful.  But, that's more of a long term strategy.

Of course, preg_replace("..../e", ... , ...) may not work at all anymore (which means it's REALLY deprecated!!).  In this case, the code has to be modified to use the callback, which is not that bad.

Have not written up a test PHP script to try it out.... so I don't know.
