Don't forget about the Illudium Q-36 Space Modulator.
The Nr. 4 Renfrosnart, made by Chiltzangbrone Engineering, shows similar performance and may be subbed in case a Q-36 is not handy.

What makes my antenna work? Being put up in the dead of winter. Everyone knows that a winter erected antenna of any type has at least 6 dB gain over a comparable summer erected antenna!

The direct result of increased flux capacitance during winter solstice. Experiments in antenna erection at Stonehenge at winter solstice showed as much as +9dB.

To be serious, the height is the main benefit for my shallow inverted V. Other things that make it work well are it being made of OWL and well insulated.
Any problems, like tuning it, are my fault because of using a "T" style matcher followed by a balun. The instructions reccommend a Johnson matchbox -like tuner and warn against balun use. The antenna has a high reactance and this needs to be dealt with by a balanced L tuner or an air coupled tuner (matchbox).
Any other deficiencies are no more than what is expected from an 80M dipole.
