For the last few weeks I have been getting intermittent annoying messages when I go to read a post on this site if I want to install Flash, the message is in the form of a drop down from the  address line. I DO NOT WANT THIS CRUD on my PC because of the obnoxious advertising it enables.

I assume this must originate from AM phone as this is one of the few sites I get this annoying message on.

I get it here also, every time I change a page (and I've gone throught all the past archive).
but this is not the only place - only the worst

My son, who is an IT - says it is an AP  (whatever that is) - that Adobe Flash has put out.  He knows, but lives way down at Nashville TN - so isn't able to do anything about it, and I don't know enough of what he does say, to know what he is saying.

I'm on this site daily, and I've not had that experience.

you can either disable it and avoid the messages, and some functions here might not work,
or,
you can install it and then set adobe's sites and its affiliated information collectors to a non routable address in your HOSTS file so it will work but not be able to communicate with home base.

The way it works is that when the computer wants a site, the computer looks for the site in the HOSTS file first, before looking at the internet for it. If the site is in the HOSTS file, then the entry there directs the computer where to look, in this case 0.0.0.0 which acts like a black hole and makes the computer ignore the request to contact the given site.

A frequently updated and relatively automated download to do this is at the site below. Your IT fiend can advise you better.

The general form is:

# [existing entries section]
127.0.0.1 localhost
::1 localhost #[IPv6]
#
# [Start of entries generated by MVPS HOSTS]
#
# [Misc A - Z]
0.0.0.0 fr.a2dfp.net
0.0.0.0 m.fr.a2dfp.net
0.0.0.0 mfr.a2dfp.net
0.0.0.0 ad.a8.net
0.0.0.0 asy.a8ww.net
0.0.0.0 abcstats.com
0.0.0.0 ad4.abradio.cz
0.0.0.0 adobe.com
0.0.0.0 adserver.abv.bg
# [and many more..]

The free and mostly automatic HOSTS file updater is here: http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.htm
It is not a program, nothing is installed, just entries of unwanted sites added to the null address 0.0.0.0 so they are cut off.

It's really strange how browsers are so different from each other. I cannot think of using Firefox on a music download site cuz of the ridiculous ads. But I use IE latest ver. and no ads. adblocker is waste for some reason on the one computer.
No problem here on AMFONE with any of my computers using IE or FireFox.
Thanks OPCOM for the link. The link to no where....nice!!

The links to other sites at the top of the page are Flash. I've thought of getting rid of them for a long time. I don't think much else uses Flash on this site (maybe nothing else).

The message you are getting is NOT coming from this site. It is coming from Adobe because your version of the Flash player is out of date. You should update this for security reasons alone. Or remove the Flash player completely from your computer.

Finally, no ads are generated by Flash.

I don't have Flash Player installed on my PC.

Your browser will sometimes trigger the message if you go to a web site that has Flash running and the Flash "Plug-In"(Firefox) [they may call it something else in other browsers] is not installed or is outdated. So you have a choice; live with the annoying messages, don't visit web sites that have Flash running, or install Flash. As Steve points out, there are no ads generated by Flash.

In any event, it's not generated by AMfone. There's nothing more to discuss here.
