Hey Crew,

Brentina W1IA last night found a bug in my air core calulator

http://users.wpi.edu/~smithw/coilSolver.html

Hopefully this will solve some of the headaches that people trying to use the software were incurring.

I promptly got to work on the bug and straightened it out!

Thanks Brent, sorry about the bug.

I would appreciate it if you guys could surf on over and give the calculator a test run, you can check the values it returns with:

all in inches from the arrl handbook

Inductance in microHenrys = ( (D*N)^2 ) / ( (18*D) + (40*L) )

D = the Coil Diameter (Form Diameter + Wire Diameter) (inches)
N = Number of turns
L = Length (inches)

Regards

Bill,
     I compared it to my "ARRL LIghtning Calculator" slide rule from 1932 and it seems to be "on the nose".

FBOM and thanks for sharing the link.

Cool! Thanks Joe, I've got a few of my dad's slides hanging around here. Good thing to have along with the books if the computer isn't working. I can run through the algorithms with pencil and paper... BTW intresting enough that before the age of electronic computing machinery, a "computer" was actually a job titile.

Bill,
I can't wait for you to discover DSP and start writing slop bucket
eliminator software! Good to see new blood and ideas!
You can borrow my slip stick anytime. I need to use an eye loop
with it now.
