While cruising Ebay ham radio, came across this curiosity:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/RETRO-STRANGE-UNUSUAL-ELECTRICAL-RADIO-GADGET-FROM-ESTATE-HAM-RADIO-OPERATOR-/301182364339?pt=US_Ham_Radio_Receivers&hash=item461fde2ab3

Is this part of an elaborate turret tuner, or early computer memory core device?
I can't guess, and the seller doesn't know, either.  Any ideas?

Could be a rotor from a cryptographic device.

Doesn't look like any crypto rotor wheel I've ever seen.

Are FETs supposed to glow like that?

Do you suppose those are variable inductors? or resistors?

One of the two; probably slug-tuned inductors. I doubt if they are piston trimmer capacitors.
My guess is a channel selector from an industrial or military device.

I concur based on inductively turret-ish things seen.

definitely a tuning turret similar to old style tv tuner turrets. To many positions to be for a TV.
