WCM
« on: April 06, 2014, 09:30:34 PM »

Posted in the Band Watch section earlier that I spoke with Frank, K3SQP on 40 meters. I recall that he had worked at some sort of commercial shortwave radio station. So I did a little looking on the Web. Turns out he worked at WCM, an inland marine radio station. WCM was originally put on the air in 1951 by the RadioMarine Corporation of America (part of RCA). Plenty of history at the link below, with some cool pix of people, transmitters and some receiver many will find familiar.

A few years back I got the scoop from Frank, K3SQP on his working career and was directed to that great web site you attached Steve.  Lots of historical stuff and some really neat gear.  Looks like the BA scope was bolted right to the side of the large transmitter!

Along the lines of Maritime stations, KHP out on the West Coast was a big one.  Some may find interesting this link to their website.  They do send out an email type newsletter from time to time when a special event occurs.
